Abstract

The construction and operation of an urban bus terminal causes numerous negative impacts on the environment, affecting the life of the resident population in the surroundings and in the vicinity. One of these impacts relates to noise pollution, understood as the effect caused by the propagation of undesirable sounds or noises, which at levels too high, which can cause hearing loss or even other health problems. The objective of this study was to evaluate the possible impacts of noise pollution to the population surrounding an urban road terminal, located in the Jardim Novo Mundo neighborhood in the city of Goiânia, through noise measurement. Specifically, we aimed to characterize the population exposed to the possible environmental impacts caused by noise in the surroundings of this terminal, to identify the generating sources and to evaluate the existing noise level and to compare the information obtained with the parameters established by the current environmental legislation. The quantitative noise assessment was performed according to the methodology indicated by NBR 10151:2000, considering the sound pressure level in weighted decibels, that is, in dB (A). The measurement of all points and times showed results higher than 70 dB (A), a level considered as stressful and likely to bring irreversible consequences to people's health and quality of life. It is concluded that there is a need for the municipal public power to invest in actions to minimize the problem, permanently maintaining the pavement of access roads in good condition, periodically renewing the bus fleet, and adequately informing the local population about the risks.
