INTRODUÇÃO DE ALIMENTOS ULTRAPROCESSADOS EM CRIANÇAS MENORES DE 2 ANOS: UMA REVISÃO DE LITERATURA
Keywords:
Ultraprocessed foods, Complementary feeding, BreastfeedingAbstract
The early introduction of ultraprocessed foods in the diet of children under 2 years old has become an increasing concern due to its potential impacts on child health. This literature review aims to explore the effects of this practice, highlighting the risks associated with nutritional development and the rise of chronic diseases in childhood. The purpose of this study was to review the literature on the introduction of ultraprocessed foods in the diet of children under 2 years old and their impacts on health and development. An integrative literature review was conducted, with searches in the Lilacs, SciELO, PubMed, and Capes Periodicals databases, between September and November 2024. Scientific articles, available in full text, in Portuguese and English, that answered the guiding question—what are the impacts of introducing ultraprocessed foods into the diet of children under 2 years old?—were included. The descriptors used were: ultraprocessed foods, complementary feeding, and breastfeeding. Exclusion criteria included duplicates in the databases, theses, dissertations, and editorial letters. The early introduction of ultraprocessed foods was associated with low maternal education, multiparity, and low family income. The consumption of these foods increased the risks of obesity, chronic diseases, and inadequate development in children. Educational strategies aimed at families and healthcare professionals are essential to reduce early exposure to ultraprocessed foods, promoting healthy eating habits and contributing to children's growth and well-being.
