ANÁLISE DE SUPERAÇÃO DE DORMÊNCIA EM SEMENTES POR DIFERENTES MÉTODOS
Keywords:
Germination, viability, scarificationAbstract
The Jatobá (Hymenaea courbaril L), the Flamboyant (Delonix regia) and the Copaíba (Copaifera langsdorffii Desf) are highly interesting species for reforestation areas. The occurrence of dormancy in seeds limits the production of seedlings, due to low viability and non-uniformity, which harms the potential use of these species. Therefore, the present work aimed to evaluate the efficiency of different methods of overcoming dormancy in Jatobá, Flamboyant and Copaíba seeds. The experiment was conducted in a residential area in the city of Aparecida de Goiânia, Goiás, Brazil, from April to June 2024. Four treatments (T) were tested: T1 – Control; T2 – Mechanical scarification: done with a hoe file; T3 – Chemical scarification: done by immersing in sulfuric acid (H₂SO₄) for ten minutes; T4 – Thermal shock: done with boiling water for ten minutes. The design used was completely randomized with three replications. The seed viability and average plant growth were evaluated. The data were subjected to analysis of variance, with the means compared using the Tukey test, at 5% significance. There was a significant difference (p-value ≤ 0.05) between the treatments tested, indicating that there are more efficient methods for overcoming dormancy in the species tested. Mechanical scarification showed greater viability and growth for the three species, which is the best method for overcoming dormancy. The seeds subjected to boiling for ten minutes were deteriorated, which prevented germination. Immersing the seeds in sulfuric acid for ten minutes had a similar result to the control, but as it is a chemical product with restricted access and high value, the indices obtained do not make its use interesting.
