PARALYMPIC SPORT AND THROWING EVENTS IN ATHLETICS: A LITERATURE REVIEW AND REFLECTIONS ON ACADEMIC PRODUCTION IN THE FIELD

This study presents a literature review on Paralympic sport, with an emphasis on the throwing events. The research is justified by the scarcity of academic studies in this area, identified through a search in the Brazilian Digital Library of Theses and Dissertations (BDTD). Using the terms “sport,” “Paralympic,” “athletics,” and “throwing,” only three studies were found. However, when the term “Paralympic” was removed, the number of publications increased to 57, highlighting the need for more scientific production focused on Paralympic sports. In this context, the aim of this study is to provide the academic community, especially Physical Education students, with relevant information about the origin of the Paralympic Games and the main fundamentals of throwing events in Paralympic athletics. The review aims to contribute to the strengthening of academic literature in this field and to encourage further research on the topic.
