Palliative care encompasses a set of practices aimed at relieving pain, in addition to addressing the patient's psychological and spiritual dimensions. The goal is to provide comfort and support until the moment of death, especially in cases of terminal cancer. This phase is extremely challenging, as, in addition to dealing with physical suffering, the patient needs intensive care, and it is essential to have someone to support them. The choice of caregiver is influenced by several factors, such as emotional proximity, emotional relationship, geographic proximity and one's own sense of responsibility. In hospital psychology, action is based on a tripod that involves the patient, the family and the healthcare team. However, it is important to highlight that care for terminally ill patients is not limited to a single moment, but encompasses several phases, from diagnosis to palliative care itself. Faced with this ongoing process, caregivers often face emotional and physical challenges. Stress, anxiety and even depression are common, in addition to the loss of your own routine and personal care due to the demands of the caregiver role. This work, therefore, seeks to deepen the discussion on a topic that, despite its relevance, still needs further studies, especially with regard to the emotional impacts and burden experienced by caregivers.
