Abstract

In this article, present the results of a set of activities developed with the students of High School, related to the theme leishmaniasis and Mathematical Modeling. The objective is to point out the Mathematical Modeling as a strategy for the study of leishmaniasis, with students of the 2nd year of High School. The research was qualitative, characterized as a case study and was developed in 15 meetings. Data collection occurred as observational study and recordings were used in video, audio, questionnaire to students and the field diary. As a theoretical foundation, was utilized the views of specialists in Mathematical Modeling, and authors that make the relationship between Mathematics and Biology. The results indicate that the use of Mathematical Modeling in the teaching and learning processes about Leishmaniasis in High School has important implications, such as: to work with a theme of meaning for the students; relate contents to daily life; to be flexible to plan activities; have active student participation; use mathematical knowledge, among others.
