CERRADO"™S ORNAMENTAL PLANTS
Abstract
The floriculture market is a promising sector within Agribusiness and is in full development despite the country's financial situation. This is based on the use of exotic plants. However, the need to use indigenous plants is real, creating more sustainable projects. The Cerrado stands out in species richness, among which many have potential for use in ornamentation. The present work is a review of literature from works carried out at the Federal University of Goiás. Bromélia reversacantha stands out among the bromeliads of the Cerrado. It presents dual aptitude, being indicated as plant for garden and packaged. The inflorescence, which is the main attraction of the species, presents dark rosacea coloration, being this showy and lasting. The flowering period occurs between the months of May and August. The Mimosa setosissima occurs particularly in Cerrado rupestre. The size and diameter of the stem demonstrate that the species can be used for urban tree planting, even on narrow sidewalks. Helicters sacarolha is a shrub, with reddish-colored hairy flowers occurring during spring and summer seasons, and cork-shaped fruits. The Orchidadeae family is found in several sizes and architectures. Native orchids are known and marketed by the population of Goiás, being mostly fruits of predatory extractivism. The variability of the Cerrado is scarcely explored, and there is no room for native plants at most of the commercialization points. Research is needed to identify and manage these plants.
