CRITICAL PERSPECTIVES OF PSYCHOLOGY UNDERGRADUATES ON TAYLORISM APPLIED IN COMPANIES
Keywords:

This study aims to investigate how undergraduate Psychology students understand and critique the applicability of Frederick Winslow Taylor’s Scientific Management principles in contemporary organizations. The research was conducted using a descriptive and exploratory methodology, employing questionnaires administered to 228 university students in the city of Goiânia (GO). Quantitative and qualitative data were collected and subsequently analyzed using descriptive statistics and content analysis. The results indicate that while students acknowledge the historical significance of Taylorist principles, particularly regarding efficiency and productivity, they also express strong criticisms, especially concerning worker alienation and the lack of flexibility in current organizational practices. These future psychologists, when reflecting on people management, demonstrate a critical and balanced perspective, suggesting the need for more humanized and adaptive managerial practices. The study concludes that although Taylor’s principles still influence management practices, there is a growing demand for approaches that prioritize worker well-being, autonomy, and innovation, aligning productive efficiency with human needs in organizations. This research contributes to the debate on the education of psychologists and their future roles in organizational contexts, particularly in supporting people management practices aimed at fostering more humanized management strategies.
