BRT EM GOIÂNIA: UM ELO ENTRE A MOBILIDADE URBANA E A CIDADE SUSTENTÁVEL

Goiania is a Brazilian regional metropolis, and its metropolitan area comprises 21 municipalities, totaling 2,613,491 inhabitants. The entire public transportation system of the Goiania Metropolitan Region (RMG) is jointly managed by the municipal governments and the state government. The city has an exclusive east/west corridor for public transportation, implemented in the 1970s. In 2015, construction of the North/South BRT system began. This article analyzes mobility in Goiania and the North/South BRT project, identifying its characteristics and its role in promoting the right to the city and sustainable urban mobility. To evaluate these topics, a literature review was conducted, along with an on-site analysis and a project assessment to establish a parallel between theory and practice. The results indicate that Goiania’s BRT system includes features that do not fully meet the criteria of a complete BRT system, but these shortcomings do not significantly affect its performance.
